'In this home video which was made in the year of 1964, we start the video at 69 Central Avenue, Indooroopilly. When Mum drives off to the shops, she drives up New Cross street and turns left onto Clarence Road. Down to Allwood to go under the railway line and across Coonan St where Allwood changes to Belgrave Road. As we drive along Belgrave, you can look at the hill which will become Indooroopilly Shopping Town. Turning left at Stamford to go up the hill to turn left nto Station Road and down the hill cenaetaph and post office, then a spot of Grocery shopping in the old BCC.'

'All of us five children went to Taringa primary school and then on to Indooroopilly High. Shoes were not compulsory as my dad films in the march past as we came off assembly. In the film, dad is walking off to his first job as a teller in the Wales Bank before he joined the army reserves asa Captain. We three youngest are running down Swan road to the railway bridge to breath in the black soot from the steam train passing underneath. We used to hear the whistle as it left 'Indo' station and run to catch it as it went under. 🙂 We are also walking down Moggill Rd past the old service station and blacksmiths. I hope you enjoy a look back into the past and the slates on the desks in my grade 1 class.'

A Day in the Life of the Brown's. 69 Central Avenue, Indooroopilly

29 September 2024 Roland Brown posted a 'must watch' fifteen-minute video and typed the description below:

In this home video, which was made during the year of 1964, we start the video at 69 Central Avenue, Indooroopilly. Dad was an avid photographer and film maker and as children, we dreaded the camera and movie camera coming out. We were constantly told to 'not look at the camera and to look natural'? We see the two youngest of the boys bringing in the daily delivery of milk and the newspaper. The girls had to make everyone their morning cups of tea. Almost all were 'White and Two'. We see our Dutch mum, Ingeborg, hanging out the washing in her clogs and chatting to our neighbour Helen-Nacy Woods.

Turning left at Stamford Road, to go up the hill to turn left into Station Road. We drive down the hill to pass the Anzac memorial Cenotaph and the Post Office. Mum then goes into do a spot of Grocery shopping in the old BCC.

All of us five children went to Taringa Primary School and then on to Indooroopilly State High School. Shoes were not compulsory in Primary School and can be seen as my dad films the march past as we came off assembly. In the film, dad is walking off to his first job as a teller in the Wales Bank before he joined the army reserves as a Captain. We three youngest are running down Swan Road to the railway bridge to breath in the black soot from the steam train passing underneath. We could hear the whistle as it left 'Indo' station and run to catch it as it went under. 🙂 We are also walking down Moggill Rd past the old service station and blacksmiths.

I hope you enjoy a look back into the past and the slates on the desks in my grade 1 class. In the film, we also see my eldest brother ride off to Indooroopilly High School on his Speedwell 27 1/2" bike with ram horn handlebars. We see the Indooroopilly Cadets on parade and the morning assembly and 'Lord's Prayer' being said with the removal of the hats as a sign of respect.
